My youngest daughter started Kindergarten today. Even though I’ve been through this with one child already, I’m pretty sure I was more nervous than she was. She had a great morning, and raved about all the ‘stuff’ she got at school. Her most prized gift? A 4” square little yellow ‘blanket’! The teacher read a book (which, until today, I’ve never heard of) called “Owen”, by Kevin Henkes. It’s about a mouse who loves his blanket and wants to take it to school, so his mom decides to cut a piece of it into a handkerchief so he can take it with him to his first day of kindergarten. It did remind both of us of Blanket Full of Love, which we will read tonight. Talk about a full-circle moment – I wrote Blanket Full of Love when my oldest daughter was a baby, and now that I’m sending my youngest off to school she gets a little blanket. It was perfect.
